Reiki Energy Healing

Barbara Ackerson, practices Reiki Energy Healing as a Certified Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master, and has been a Reiki practitioner for ten years. She currently practices in Clinton and Guilford. Barbara is a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals. She served as a volunteer in CT Hospice’s Reiki program for four years. She has donated her services to local Relay’s for Life, Cancer organizations, Woman’s Health Conference (Guilford Family Services) and other requested fundraising events.

I was truly led down a path of discovery to Reiki healing. While attending Community College, an Entrepreneurship course, the final class assignment was to create a business plan and establish a business. I read a brochure about Reiki Energy Healing in a naturopath’s reception room and decided my class project would be to set up a healing practice. I scheduled an experiential session with a Reiki practitioner. I conducted interviews with Reiki practitioners of varying certified levels in the U.S. and the U.K. to learn why they did Reiki and how they formed their business practice. The more I interviewed these extraordinary practitioners and continued to research this ancient Japanese energy healing, my faux business assignment evolved into my true spiritual path and business plan.

My private instruction began with a Reiki Master on the shoreline in 2000, with whom I had previously interviewed for my class assignment. My former marketing instructor, a very insightful, successful and wise woman, advised me to pursue my true passion and success will follow. Her experience taught her what I had yet to realize. Her words rallied me and encouraged me to continue my training in Reiki. After completing my Level II certification, I signed up to volunteer in CT Hospice’s Reiki program in Branford, CT for four years. It was an amazing and deeply enriching time of healing as I was privileged to participate in so many wonderful lives; patients, their families and friends including the nursing staff.

I was able to experience the diversity of Reiki healing for stress relief, pain management, emergency care and the social and emotional issues that sometimes arise during a healing session. I continued my training to Master Level in 2004. My private healing practice of several years has been an amazing journey and healing experiences with people of all ages, womb to aged, oncology patients, emotionally distressed and some of my favorites, the family dogs.
