What is Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT)?
Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) is a powerful technology that yields profound results in returning the body to Optimal Health. It is a totally non-invasive, medication free therapy that supports the body’s incredible self healing capacity. This therapy has yielded dramatic results for people experiencing a wide variety of health issues that have resulted in pain, dysfunction, disease, and disability. IMT was developed by Sharon (Weiselfish) Giammatteo, PhD, PT, IMT-C over the past 30 years. She introduced her work in 1981 and it has remained the focus of clinical practice at Center IMT in Bloomfield, CT (www.centerimt.com).
Lisa Gramlich, PT, IMT-C, took her 1st IMT class in 2001 after seeking alternative treatment for her daughter who was diagnosed with ADHD. After taking a number of IMT classes, in 2005 Lisa entered the CT School of Integrative Manual Therapy (within Center IMT). In 2006, she became an employee of Center IMT where she still trains and works under Dr. Giammatteo. Ms. Gramlich graduated and became a certified Integrative Manual Therapist in 2008.
IMT therapists, like Lisa Gramlich, believe in the body’s ability to heal itself – witness the healing of a simple cut! Most health problems (minor or chronic) are the result of blockages and other dysfunction that prevent the body from self healing. We might be born with these dysfunctions or they are caused by an accident or illness. The premise of IMT is locating the causes of dysfunction and then reestablishing the body’s structural and physiologic function so the body can begin to self-heal. It is a comprehensive and holistic approach to wellness.
IMT is built on an Integrated Systems Approach-the concept that each client’s body must be evaluated and treated uniquely, as a series of systems. IMT is a “hands on” technique but it is different than other holistic therapies like massage, reiki or traditional PT.
IMT has helped clients diagnosed with: chronic back pain, migraine headaches, learning disabilities, autism, diabetes, sports related injuries, chronic fatigue, bowel and bladder issues, fertility and woman’s health issues, depression, anxiety, and neurological problems—to name a few! Many clients, once treated, use IMT preventatively to maintain Optimal Health.
IMT offers clients the opportunity for recovery, rehabilitation and prevention. The beauty lies within the fact that it is alternative and holistic but compliments other health care disciplines. Truly, it allows a client to experience optimal health for optimal living.
